Having children brings great joy. It also brings a great challenge. If your children are ideal examples of everything a parent would want their kids to be, well done you. For the rest of us there are good days and bad days. Sometimes the bad days come around too often and the temptation is to feel that of all the parents you know, you alone are a failure and that your kids are going to grow up to experience problems in adulthood.
Deep down you probably know that the above feeling is far too pessimistic and that lots of parents make mistakes. Unfortunately our society is full of ‘experts’ writing for magazines and newspapers who, daily, tell us what to do with our children. Look through many of them and you’ll find that conflicting advice abounds. Worst of all is that group of wise heads who tell us that: ‘it’s all common sense really’.
Well, let’s not knock common sense. Without it the Human Race would be in big trouble. But our view is that common sense is fine for everyday practical issues and those black and white areas where there is only one solution. Where human beings are concerned a little flexibility and expertise are invaluable. Trusting to luck and hoping for the best just won’t do when it’s your children’s future at stake.
This is our promise. Come to us with your concerns about your baby, toddler, school-age child or adolescent and we’ll help you with advice and support that is based on decades of real experience with real families and children with problems. We won’t give you theories or opinions about what you should do. We’ll talk you through each situation and show you how our advice works and why. We’ll try to make our advice short and to the point. We can help with issues such as:
Professional support is expensive and time consuming. Our aim is to teach you the principles of our work and give you skills that you can use for yourself. If you need extra support it’s available, but only if and when you want it.
